We’re still going strong with making changes in our diet. We’re still a long (long) way from being perfect, but we are definitely improving. I’ve found that I have more luck being sneaky than I do with being up front when it comes to getting my daughter to eat certain things.
I’ve heard great things about Hemp Hearts. I’m not a nutritionist nor a dietitian so I will let you explore the health benefits for yourself. Dr. Oz calls them “Brain Food”, and discusses their health benefits. I was interested in them after I heard him talk about how they are a complete source of protein and are high in fibre, things my daughter and son both lack in their diets.
The folks at Manitoba Harvesthave graciously sent me a package of hemp hearts to try. The hemp hearts have a slightly nutty taste, but are easily disguised in many of the simple foods we make. We have tried them in smoothies, muffins, cookies and even put them in our salsa. If you decide to bake with them, just be aware that you break down the oils if you heat them up over 350F. The hearts are great sprinkled into oatmeal and trail mix. By using the hemp hearts I was easily able to add extra protein and fibre to our diets.
Manitoba Harvest has a wide variety of products to try. I would be interested in trying the Chocolate Hemp Bliss as a substitute for chocolate milk!
