Greetings and felicitations! Although I’ll miss that Vegas sun, it’s good to be back home and writing again. Tonight I’m going to review another bag from Willland Outdoors, the Archer, that was fortunate enough to arrive before our trip (what better way to put it through it’s paces).
As with all of Willland Outdoor’s bags, the Archer is a quality bag (and has a lifetime guarantee to prove it). It’s a sling style bag, with the option to switch where the strap attaches at the bottom so you have the option of which shoulder you’d prefer to wear the bag on. The area where the strap attaches as the top is reinforced, and the buckles/hardware on the strap are either painted to look brass or are possibly plated. The two logos on the front are also painted/plated in a similar maner.
The bag itself is approximately 35 X 5 X 20 cm (14 X 2 X 8 inches). The largest pocket opens at the top, and has a zipper with two pulls. Inside that pocket, against the back of the bag, is a padded sleeve suitable for a tablet or small laptop with a velcro strap to keep your electronics in place. There is also a mesh sleeve on the opposite side of the pocket. The smaller of the two pockets opens via a zipper on the front of the bag. This pocket contains one padded sleeve for small electronics, and two pen sleeves/holders.
I’ve been using the Archer to replace a sling backpack I had previously been using for almost a month now. So far it’s holding up quite well. The brass painted/plated hardware has had some minor scuffs, but nothing appears to be chipping. My 5 inch phone with a rubberized case fits easily into the electronics sleeve with a bit of room to spare, and my 7 inch tablet has more than ample space in the tablet/mini l aptop sleeve. I used this bag as one of my two carry-ons for our trip, and was able to pack more into the bag than I expected:
– Two USB chargers and cables
– Wireless router with power supply and two network cables
– Netbook and power supply
– Portable USB battery
– Several ceral bars
– Toiletries (toothpaste, medicaiton, toothbrush, kleenex, mouthwash, razor, shaving cream).
Considering the bag is designed more for day to day use, it held up to the punishment I put it through that trip quite well. The only casualty is a small hole at the bottom of the mesh sleeve (which is a rather large mesh anyway). I’m pretty sure it was the plug on one of the power supplies that caught hold and broke one link in the mesh.
Overall I’m very happy with the comfort, style, and quality of the bag. For my own tastes I would have preferred one or two smaller sleeves with zippered or elastic tops in lieu of the mesh sleeve, but everyone’s tastes are different. I still use this bag over my old sling backpack.
