Each year at the beginning of advent I fill a basket and set it under the tree. It’s filled with books, one for each of the days leading up to Christmas day. The kids look forward to picking a book from the basket and reading it together as a family. I try to keep each book faith based, so that we can take time each night to remember why we celebrate Christmas. “Where Jesus Slept” will be a wonderful addition to our Christmas basket.
“Where Jesus Slept” by Norma Lewis, tells the story of Jesus birth. The story starts at the manger where Jesus slept and ends with the Wise Men who came to share their gifts with the newborn King.
The story is told in rhyme, reminiscent of “This is the House that Jack Built” from my childhood days. There is a lot of repetition so your little one can read along with you. The font size is large, perfect for young readers. I like how they highlighted several of the key words in the story, my children love to point them out on each page as we read together.
The illustration by Katy Hudson are soft and soothing, perfect for reading just before bed. I love how they help your child visualize the Christmas story. You will find your little ones telling the story using their own words.
The story opens and ends with a scripture verse. I love how this encourages your little ones to explore their faith and the Bible. My children always want to open the Bible and read the suggested verses directly. We will often read a few verses before and after and talk about how it relates to what we just read.
“Where Jesus Slept” is a beautiful rendition of the Christmas story that you will want to share with your children time and time again. For more information check the book out on Amazon.com.
