Glasses from

I’ve been wearing glasses since I was 5 years old. When I try to mentally add up the amount of money spent on my glasses over the last 35 years, the sum is staggering.

If you ever get the time, this is an interesting read. It explains why glasses cost so much these days. If you’re as disgusted as I am, you may want to look into buying eye glasses online from a retailer like

One thing to keep in mind when you order glasses online is that you won’t have the benefit of getting your PD (pupillary distance) measured in store. There are a couple of ways of getting this measurement. Some brick and mortar retailers won’t give you these numbers at all, some will for a fee. I’ve heard of varying costs from $30-$75, but you would have to check your local vision centre to get exact costs. Another way of obtaining your PD is by using an on-line tool. A quick google search for PD measurement will bring up a slew of results. This is the method I used for the purposes of this review.

I ordered the MyrtleBeach Rectangle – Black for review. I decided to go for the “Advanced” lens package (1.61 index, anti-scratch, anti-reflective, UV). The lenses were clear and the index helped keep the glasses lightweight. The glasses are very comfortable and attractive. The arms are relatively straight arms and curve downward slightly over the ear, but also curve inward slightly behind the ear with the shape of your head allowing for a snug and comfortable fit. I had to adjust the nose piece slightly to create the perfect fit.

I did run into a small problem with my glasses, the same I’ve had with semi-rimless before. The strap that holds in the right lens loosened up slightly after my glasses fell one day (on the bright side, no scratches). From that point on the right lens would pop out with little pressure.  After contacting support, they immediately offered to send me a new pair.
