My Bible is dog-eared and worn. I’ve had it for as long as I can remember now. It has been my guide through all the big events of my life. I want my daughter to have the same love for her Bible as I have for mine. I want her to know that when she needs help, in any area of her life, she can find the answers in God’s word. Right now we are still searching for the Bible that suits her unique personality and needs.
The “Blessed Garden” Holy Bible by Tommy Nelson is a beautiful Bible written in the “International Children’s Bible” translation. It has a charming hard cover, featuring an adorable fox and colourful flowers. Your little girl will be drawn to it’s cover and will begin to explore God’s word found in it’s pages.
This is our first experience with the ICB translation. I would suggest that you do some research to discover if this is the right translation for your family. The ICB has a third-grade reading level, making this a good beginner’s Bible. While I love the simplicity of the text, I still prefer my NIV (New International Version) best.
The “Blessed Garden” Holy Bible has many features that will help your child begin to understand what is found in the Bible. There are full colour study guides. Each one answering many common questions that new believers have.
The Bible also highlights important verses found throughout the Bible. I love this feature as it’s helps my daughter identify key verses in the Bible to memorize. The Bible is a huge book filled with God’s promises and I feel it’s important for my daughter to memorize some of these verses so that even she doesn’t have her Bible physically in her hands, she has God’s word securely in her heart.
Many difficult to understand words are found in bold and can be found in the dictionary in the back. This is so helpful when my daughter asks difficult questions about words she finds in the bible like Thummin (Exodus 28: 30) or wants a concise definition of Heaven.
The Bible contains numerous promises that God has made to us. The back of the “Blessed Garden” Holy Bible contains a list called “What God Promises About…” that share what God promises about Doing Good, Forgiveness, Happiness and so much more.
One of my favourite sections is the “Memory Verses For My Life”. Here you can find verses that will guide you through life. My favourite verse can be found listed here – “I can do all things through Christ because he gives me strength.” Philippians 4:13.
The “ICB Blessed Garden” Holy Bible helps my daughter understand the bible by putting traditional terms into today’s language. One example of this can be found in Genesis 6: 15 where cubits has been converted to feet. This helps us put into context how big the ark was.
It was designed with your little one in mind. The pages seem to be thicker than other Bibles. As with other Bibles the pages are extremely heavy with text. This can be intimidating to young readers. I would like to see something similar to my Study Bible, where the text is broken up with insights into the scriptures.
The “ICB Blessed Garden” Holy Bible is a wonderful Bible to introduce your child to God’s word in a way that is easy for them to understand. The easier it is for my daughter to understand the more she wants to explore and discover the treasures God has in store for us.
