Empty the Dishwasher

When you take the time to empty the dishwasher every morning, it means you are keeping your house cleaner. That’s because you don’t have to worry about dirty dishes sitting on the counter or in the skin all day long. Not only does this make your house look messy, but can also attract pests. While there are several natural pest control strategies you can use to prevent these pests, one of the best things you can do is keep crumbs and food off the counter.

Clean Up Each Time You Cook

Another mess that may attract pests is a dirty counter. While it is tempting to leave all the pots and pans on the stove and in the sink, this isn’t a good idea. If you empty the dishwasher, it’s convenient to quickly load your dishes after a snack or a meal and wipe down the counters. Make sure to put away any food that’s sitting around before you start cleaning.

Do At Least One Load of Laundry Each Day

Believe it or not, following a daily habit to do at least one load of laundry (more if you have a bigger family) can be life-changing. Make sure to put a load in before you go to work. If you have a washing machine that has a delayed start cycle, you should set it so that it runs right before you get home for the day. After dinner, you can move the damp clothes to the dryer and then fold them during the commercials on TV. Putting away a single load of laundry takes virtually no time – you can do it right before you go to bed.

Wipe Down the Faucets and Sinks

Hair in the bathroom sink and toothpaste splatters look gross. Make sure you keep a container of cleaning wipes under the bathroom sink so you can wipe everything down at least one time a day. This is going to prevent built on, caked-on gunk and grime that’s hard to get rid of.

Sort and Recycle Items Right Away

If you are like most people, you probably have more than a few recyclable items that are ready to be thrown out each day. Make sure to recycle them immediately, rather than allowing them to pile up on the kitchen counter or the dining room table. If the stack gets too high, it’s going to become something that is too overwhelming to handle, which means it is just going to continue growing. Avoid this situation by sorting your recyclables and putting them in the proper bin each day.

Put a Doormat at Every Door Leading Outside

The less dirt and grime you bring into the house, the less frequently you have to clean the floors in your home. The best way to keep dirt outside – where it belongs – is by putting high-quality doormats at every exterior door. You can shake these out or vacuum them every few days. You can put even more mats outside the door that leads from your garage, which is going to trap even more dirt that may otherwise wind up in your home.

Take the Mess with You

Don’t ever leave more work that you are just going to have to tackle tomorrow. There’s no problem with watching Netflix and enjoying a few snacks, but make sure to get up any crumbs, put away your blanket, and straighten the cushions before going to bed. If you used a bowl or glass, take it and put it in the dishwasher and then start the dishwasher before heading to bed. Make sure anyone watching the movie with you takes the time to clean up their mess, as well. Spending two minutes straightening up is going to allow you to handle other things the next day.

Create a “Kitchen Shutdown” Routine

When you take the time to straighten up your kitchen every evening, you are going to start the next day in a much more pleasant manner. Be sure to get your coffee maker ready to brew, put away any dishes or food, and wipe down the counters. If needed, make sure you take out the trash in your kitchen, too. By doing this, you can get ready for the next day, and it will help keep pests away.

As you can see, these tasks don’t take a lot of time, but they can make a huge difference in the way your home looks and feels. By keeping things clean, you can avoid stressful mornings, clutter, pests, and more. There’s no reason not to pick up after yourself and have everyone in the house do the same.
