Disclosure: I downloaded the “Fruits of Spirit – Parable of the Sower” colouring pages for free from “FruitsofSpirit.com”. All opinions are 100% my own.
We are a small ageing church and it’s vitally important that we reach out to the youngest members of our congregation. We have a Jr. Church program that runs each week with a small group of children from toddlers to pre-teens. It can be difficult to find materials that will work with such a wide range of children. “Fruit of Spirit” offers free colouring pages and stories that work beautifully for our storytimes.

With planting season underway there is no better time to share the parable that Jesus told about a farmer sowing seed in his fields. Jesus told this simple story to illustrate how there are different responses to hearing the Gospel.
“Fruits of Spirit” has low prep lesson resources available for you to help teach the ‘Parable of the Sower’ to a wide range of ages.
The site shares an explanation of the ‘Parable of the Sower’. Although the text is difficult for younger children to understand, it gives you, as the teacher a great understanding of the parable to teach to your class.
You will also find a video that tells the parable that is suitable for any age group. As the illustrator is drawing the image on the screen the story is told in a simple narrative. This style of storytelling doesn’t always appeal to younger children but you could show the other available colouring pages as the story is being told.

There are 6 colouring pages available for download. The first one matches the drawing that is created in the video and a little abstract in design while e other pages are more traditional in design.
When I’m creating our Jr. Church program I have to keep in mind that we have children from ages 2 through 10 so I need materials that I can adapt to each age group. These materials work well for my needs.
The colouring pages are line drawings that are simple to colour. Younger children will enjoy colouring the pages just as they are. Some of the lines are very close together and little hands may find it difficult to stay in between the lines.
I would like to see the scripture reference, and perhaps a simple verse included on the page. I like to include these on my colouring pages so that parents can reference the story at home. This can easily be remedied by handwriting it on the page.
My daughter has started Bible Journalling and wanted to personalize hers with some text that is meaningful to her. The simplicity of the pages allows me to customize them to my needs and wants.

These pages lend themselves beautifully to art projects when printed on cardstock. Try scattering seeds on the page with the path or add some sand to the image with rocky soil.
Resize the pages to suit your project. To create a colouring book, I printed the pages out at 8.5 x 11 inches. For my daughter’s Bible Journal page, we printed it out at 5 x 7 so she can place it between the pages of her Bible.
The site contains everything that I need to create a Jr. Church lesson for our church. I need to adapt some of the content for my group but the base of the lesson is there. Be sure to browse their site for more FREE resources.
