This year our summer vacation was a little different, but still filled with fun and adventure. Our annual trip to Las Vegas has been postponed so we decided to do ‘arm-chair’ travel to South Korea.

“If You Were Me And Lived In…South Korea” is another installment in the “If You Were Me And Lived In…” series of books by Carole P. Roman. The book introduces your little ones to the South Korean culture.

If You Were Me And Lived In South Korea

Each book in the “If You Were Me And Lived In…” series follows a similar pattern. In this book, “If You Were Me And Lived In… South Korea”, your little one will explore the culture and customs of South Korea. Your child learns about everyday activities that children around the world participate in like sports, playing with dolls and even going to school. I love the consistency that found throughout all the books.

I love that the book reinforces the learning strategies that my children are learning in school and gives my children the freedom to discover new words in different ways.

I love how the author, Ms. Roman, has included a pronunciation guide for important or unfamiliar words.  Often young readers can be discouraged when trying to read large words, especially if they are from another language, the guide helps build your child’s confidence. I love that the guide is in the text as you are reading the book, as well as a complete alphabetical guide at the back of the book.

As they read books in the classroom they are encouraged to look at the pictures to see if that helps them discover what a word means. The author encourages my children to “guess” what a new word is by using the pictures.

My children enjoy the bright and colourful illustrations. I would love to see more “real world” images in the story, but that is just my personal taste.

I love how each page features a new fact about the South Korean culture. Each topic is in manageable pieces for kids to digest.
