After deciding to take your loved one to an assisted living facility, the next thing is to find the right facility. The right facility is one that will make you and your loved one feel at home. Many reputable assisted living facilities, such as St. Augustine assisted living, and many others will ensure your loved one enjoys their old age among loving and caring professionals. However, finding the right facility can be a daunting task if you don’t know what to check for. Below is a quick checklist as you search for a home for your elderly loved one.
Tour The Facility
Just like you would a new house or apartment, tour the facility to see the outward appearance and interior decor. Are the areas clean? Do residents appear happy and comfortable? What’s the general mood? Such questions will give you a clear view of your loved one’s experience if you choose the location.
Assess The Services
The services you receive on day one will reflect what your loved one will experience once they start living in the facility.
Also, be sure about the regulations you or your loved ones have to comply with. Can your loved one be discharged for non-compliance? How do you pay for extra services such as nursing care when they are required on a temporary basis? What is the insurance and personal property policy?
You have to know all that.
Social and Recreational Activities
Look for signs of a structured activities program, such as a posted daily schedule, ongoing events, reading materials, guests, and so on. Check to see whether the home requires inhabitants to do any tasks or participate in specialized activities that benefit all residents. Some residences have their own pets or allow residents to come with their pets.
